Controlled fitting
A 'controlled fitting' is part of a building that must comply with the Building Regulations when being installed or replaced.
Controlled fittings can refer to:
- External windows.
- External doors.
- Roof ventilators.
- Roof lights.
- Curtain walls.
Under the building regulations in England and Wales, controlled fittings must meet certain energy efficiency requirements, as well as other requirements relating to safety, means of escape and ventilation.
'Controlled services' might include; heating, hot water, ventilation and lighting services.
Approved document L defines a controlled fitting or service as:
| ...a service or fitting in relation to which Part G (sanitation, hot water safety and water efficiency), H (drainage and waste disposal), J (combustion appliances and fuel storage systems), L. (conservation of fuel and power) or P (electrical safety) of Schedule 1 to the Building Regulations imposes a requirement. |
